Yeah, it's pretty sick and anticlimactic at the same time. So much "hope" over suffering with so much nothing to show for it.
I used to think that they would have wished the "Sign" included terrorism, tsunamis, and hurricanes/cyclones to further solidfy thier beliefs. But now I realize they can cover them as war-related (terrorism), earthquake derived (tsunami), and all of them as people being "faint out of fear".
oh lord (or whoever).
please help me pay attention to the newbies and concentrate on the ones who are genuine.
please in your infinite wisdom give me relief from add to pay attention to ip addresses and match up the ones who seem to piss me off with the poster who did such deed.. in the name of whatever is holy at the time,.

Somehow I doubt this will make the JW email circuit. That would be showing a lack of faith.

My wife had a very abusive (mainly mentally and verbally sometimes borderline physical) step-father. He was also a very fine, spirit-appointed elder. Yeah, right. Well, he was an elder. She also attempted to confide in an elder friend. She was told that he couldn't do anything about it since he was the head of the family. Huh!? Still she soldiered on for many years as a good pioneer and perfect JW. Nevermind the psychological scars, just go out in service more and make all the meetings and that pesky depression will evaporate like the shallow attack from Satan that it is.
Welcome aboard. There is real discussion here. No paragraphs to parrot or party line to follow for fear of repercussions. (well, maybe if you start a political thread!)

okay, so my wife and mom both got back from their public talk / wt study this evening.
my loudmouthed sister asked if there were any announcements.
the bookstudy is hereafter known as "the congregation bible study".
The rising gas prices making a hardship is such a lame, weasel-y reason. So, if prices go back to "normal" or at least down fifty cents to a buck, I guess they will reinstate (pun fully intended) the BS from the new and improved CBS.
I've seen on news as well as personally and heard from many here that gas is way more in other places in the world and has been for some time.
Now the attendance reason I believe. BS with the service meeting makes attendance for all higher. My wife also mentioned that liability in private homes could be a reason. I think some here have also postulated on that.

I don't think I really announced myself -- just made a few comments where I was interested. Several said hey but I didn't expect anything. It is the Intarweb after all.
I got more reaction from topics and posts I started later.
I no longer go to meetings but I haven't completely distanced myself from the JWs -- too many family issues there. So, I stay pretty anonymous.

that's the conclusion i've reached.

i see persons who love being martyrs by going to the kingdom hall and not being able to literally breathe because they are allergic to perfumes and colognes, and they cough, their eyes water and they actually cry that no one cares about their plight-----but they still go and are "faithful" meeting attenders yet bitch and moan to anyone that will hear them.. then you get those that are handicapped and it's a huge deal to get into a car to go out in service and they cry that nobody really cares about them.. when an elder doesn't pick a person to comment, that martyr will dutifully go to the meetings, say the conductor doesn't like him/her and pray to jehovah for the strength to endure.. i swar, jws love feeling persecuted!.
It's not just the mundane things you mention. It's institutional. My dad used to have the Persecution outline. He used to try to tone down the martyrdom a bit but there was no extracting it. If the government says "boo" that could be construed as mistreatment of JWs then its a clear sign of the end and Jehovah approves of the faithful stand. I think so many want thier own personal Holocaust, Gulag, Malawi/Mozambique (god, I got tired of hearing about them as a kid).
I agree with your observation about little things. Y'know we all need to be more like that African sister who carried her meeting clothes on her head through the croc-infested rivers.

on a recent trip home to valdosta ga, my father stated that 1/2 of the local .
spanish congregation were illegal immigrants.
a friend this morning whose mother is a witness has heard similar things .
"Undocumented" immigrants cannot have congregation privileges.One young man who was ... a ministerial servant apparently ... until he married a very attractive but undocumented immigrant sister. He was taken down from ministerial servant after the wedding.
This is a quandry. Welcome everyone, but what about Ceasar's law? How many examples have we heard about the poor person who found Tha Lawd of JWs and gave back what he stole? Or the couple who realized they just must legalize thier commonlaw marriage. Or the scofflaw who paid all those parking tickets. Or that going over the speed limit is a great disservice to Jah. Or to not even think about taking home that paperclip from work without paying for it.
If there are illegals in the KH (I've never seen them) then wouldn't the Body and/or CO tell them they should obey the law and go home? Or at the very least pay income tax where required.
